Growing up with thick hair, not all scrunchies and hair ties fit me the way they should. I have broke countless scrunchies trying to tie my hair over the years. My mom’s solution to this: use Japanese elastic. It was the only way I could keep my hair up all day. Now, we bring it to you.

About Us

We’re Melonpan Scrunchies, a mother-daughter small business in Toronto. Our mission is to bring you quality, handmade Japanese scrunchies that stay put in your hair, no matter what your hair type.

How do we do this? All of our handmade scrunchies use high quality elastics made in Japan. These elastics stretch more than your average elastic, and are specifically designed for scrunchie use. We source our elastics directly from Japan.

Our Kyoto Collection

Kyoto, Japan is my mother’s hometown and my second home. Kyoto is full of rich history and culture, the historical capital of Japan. With our handmade scrunchies, we bring you a taste of Japanese tradition and culture.

Our scrunchies in our Kyoto collection use fabric that are handpicked from local Kyoto shops, made in Japan.

How Our Scrunchies are Made

  • It all starts in our local fabric stores, whether that be Toronto or back home in Kyoto.

    Each fabric is handpicked and selected carefully. All our scrunchies use elastics made in Japan.

  • All our fabrics are hand cut, sewed, and threaded with elastic by either my mom or myself. Each and every scrunchie is inspected carefully by the both of us to ensure it meets our customer standards. It is first inspected upon completion, a second time when a customer places an order, and a third time before the final packaging. All scrunchie orders are packed and delivered to the post office by us.
